About Me
Doreen, healthy and gentle with a caring heart and a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others, enjoys learning new skills and expresses her creativity through making handmade crafts, a talent she proudly uses to brighten the lives of those around her. Thoughtful and appreciative, Doreen values every opportunity she receives and is always eager to learn. Her life experiences have nurtured a deep compassion for people who are suffering, inspiring her to one day serve those in need as a nurse.
About My Family
Doreen lost both of her parents at a very young age and is now being raised by her elder step sister, who is also caring for her own four children. As a small-scale farmer, her sister works tirelessly to provide for the family, but the harvest from their small garden is rarely enough to meet the children’s growing needs. Even in the face of hardship, the family remains united and determined to keep the children in school.
The family lives in a modest brick house with electricity. Although they once had running water at home, the supply was disconnected after they could no longer afford the utility bills. Today, Doreen walks about one kilometre to fetch water from a community well. For her family, every day is a lesson in resilience, making the most of what they have while holding firmly to the hope that education will create opportunities beyond the hardships of today.
